WHAT IS GOLDEN TICKET ADMISSIONS?
Golden Ticket Admissions is a web-based college admissions consulting company dedicated to helping students highlight their strengths while navigating the college admissions process. We help students by giving them guidance on everything from strategizing for success through high school to writing compelling personal statements. We also answer all of those nitty-gritty questions that tend to come up when parents and students hear words like "college" and "application."
WHAT IS GOLDEN TICKET'S APPROACH TO COUNSELING?
Our approach is very collaborative. We believe the college admissions process presents a profound opportunity for young people to dig deep and reflect on their background and experiences in a meaningful way. Students are encouraged to identify their personal goals and aspirations, and explore the layers of their identity that will allow admissions committees to understand the depth and breadth of their personal and intellectual potential.
From a logistical perspective, younger students will meet via video conferencing on an as-needed basis to discuss higher-level application strategy, course selection, and extracurricular activities. In later years, we guide students in garnering meaningful teacher recommendations, school search and selection, as well as brainstorming and crafting compelling personal statements. The application essay, in particular, is an opportunity to show admissions committees how a student thinks and sees the world. We work hard to make sure that even though students are getting substantial feedback, their unique voices and viewpoints continue to resonate throughout the entirety of the application
I HAVE GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT APPLYING TO COLLEGE. CAN GOLDEN TICKET HELP?
In a word--yes! Our team has been working in college admissions for nearly a decade, both as members of admissions committees, ambassadors to prospective students, and essay coaches specializing in personal narrative. In this time, we have read thousands of applications, edited hundreds of personal statements, and developed a wide breadth of knowledge about the admissions process. Your admissions counselor can answer most questions about application strategy, what (and what not) to include on an application, how to make a strong resume, and everything in between!
WHAT WEB TOOLS DO I NEED?
We will work almost exclusively in an online capacity. This expedites our communication, allows students and coaches the ability to correspond during non-traditional business hours, and gives students from across the globe access to Golden Ticket's college advising services. During counseling sessions, students will utilize popular web-based tools such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and Google Documents.
I HAVEN'T STARTED WRITING MY ESSAYS YET, AND I'M STUMPED! HOW CAN GOLDEN TICKET HELP?
For students who need guidance prior to writing their essays, students can set up an appointment via Skype or Google Hangouts to brainstorm topics and discuss the best way to approach the essays and supplements. Please contact us to get started!
HOW DO YOU WORK WITH STUDENTS ONCE THEY'VE WRITTEN A DRAFT OF THEIR ESSAY?
We've found that it works best when students e-mail us the most current draft of their personal statement. A Golden Ticket essay coach will then make initial suggestions on it using Google Documents and send it back to the student for review. At this point, students may incorporate the edits suggested, and ask any follow-up questions the comments might have generated. This method allows us to create an open and continuous dialogue throughout the entire essay-writing process. It also makes it possible for students to receive rapid feedback on each change.
HOW MUCH DOES ADMISSIONS CONSULTING COST?
It varies. Admissions consulting is an investment in the future of your child's academic and professional development. Students come to us at many different stages in their application process. For more specific information regarding rates, please email Golden Ticket Admissions, call us at 415-799-7275, or get in touch through the contact page.
HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?
For students with Admissions Packages: Golden Ticket Admissions will provide a payment schedule to families upon the initiation of services. Invoices will be sent accordingly via Paypal.
For students receiving Hourly support: Parents will receive invoices via email that reflect their outstanding balance on a periodic basis. We aim to minimize the financial burden on families by billing in 15-minute increments, with no minimums. The total amount of time it takes to complete the entire process is highly dependent on a student's writing abilities, the amount of assistance they require, and how much feedback they need for each personal statement, along with any other ad hoc questions that arise throughout their high school career. Many students are also able to use the same essay for multiple schools, which ultimately cuts down on costs and the amount of time necessary to complete the application process. On average, a student beginning work together in their senior year will utilize roughly 10-35 hours of counseling services in order to apply to their full list of schools.
Golden Ticket Admissions appreciates full payment following each substantial consulting session (roughly 1-3 hour increments). To continue receiving prompt consulting services, please process invoices upon receipt. There will be a 10% interest charge per week on late invoices. Payments may be completed via credit card or Paypal.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS OR CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT?
In the event that you need to cancel or change a video chat appointment, and give notice 24 hours in advance of your time slot, we will work our hardest to reschedule you for another appointment within the following seven days with no incurred fee. However, take note that your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you. This reservation prevents that time from being available for us to help another student. Golden Ticket always appreciates notice of schedule changes as early as possible. However, we also understand that sometimes emergencies do come up. With this in mind, Golden Ticket Admissions has the following schedule change and cancellation policy:
All schedule changes and cancellations must be made via email or text to establish time of notice. Schedule changes or cancellations made 24 hours or more before your appointment time will incur no charges. Schedule changes or cancellations, for any reason, made less than 24 hours before your appointment time will be charged the full hourly rate for the session unless it is due to an emergency or serious illness, in which case 50% of the full hourly rate will be charged.
DO YOU PROVIDE RUSH EDITING SERVICES? IS IT A DIFFERENT HOURLY RATE?
Yes, we do! During the busiest times of the application cycle (mid-late October, mid-late November and mid-late December), we work hard to complete edits as quickly as possible despite a high volume of students seeking assistance. While essays are typically edited in the order they are received, please inform us if you have an extenuating circumstance that requires you to have your edits completed within 24-48 hours of submission, and we will work with you to make sure you meet your deadline. Rates for this rush service are 1.5x the typical hourly rate. That said, we encourage students to submit any rough drafts of essays at least 3 weeks before their school's official deadline in order to minimize the need for "Rush" edits, and to fully refine and perfect their applications.
WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF YOUR COMPANY NAME, "GOLDEN TICKET ADMISSIONS?"
The name "Golden Ticket" is a reference to the classic children's book and film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl. In the film, the main character, Charlie Bucket, finds a ticket inside his candy bar that is made entirely of gold. The ticket will grant him access to his deepest wish: entrance into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.
